Lesson 2

Last time i talk about the importances of concept and process...but i'm pretty darn sure that you dont understand what is concept. Concept can be anything that governs the world...it could be your analysis of how the stock market works, a piece of music, a type of tree, a painting, a painter...anything that you felt the project is about.

there are many way to approach or procede on a project. I think our job as architect is to design with intend to show what we cannot see in the world. We as human being take so many things for granted...we walk in to buildings and up the elevator without knowing why the building is standing up. We dont appreciate these marvels anymore. What is the first important architecture?? it's a monlithic stones that raised toward the heaven to celebrate seasons....people used to be in caves and depend on mother earth...but agriculture made them depend on the sky...and understanding the cosmos and celebrating the cosmos is our first attempt at architecture.

As an architect, we not only should show why a building stands...we must be honest is everything we do...we have to use real material and let to inert beauty of that material come through. We DETAIL it to show the beauty of that material...the BEAUTY of material can be from the way it is made...the way it ages...the way light wash on it, the way it reflects or refracts, the way it connects, the way it supports, the way it is cut...the way you manipulate material also should fit your concept...

many of my friends leave materials as their last thing the consider...i felt materials is so important to a design...it should be consider at much earlier in the design process. You have to be intimate with the material you use...you need to understand to a point where you can speak to it...you have to understand the ins and outs of that material...you have to work with it in your hands...how scary it is to make something that you never touch...

Lesson 2 is over for now...Lesson 3...be a complete person
